The NEMA 5-15P is a 3 pin power plug consisting of a hot, neutral and ground pin. It is one of the most common plug types in North America and is the basis for the International Electrotechnical Commision (IEC) standard in household and similar purposes (IEC 60906-2). The NEMA 5-15 and 5-20 are both standard options for 125V line, neutral and ground connections. To best decide which option fits your needs, refer to the name plate/ face plate for your devices specifications.
The NEMA 5-15R is a 3 Wire grounded connector with forced polarity rated up to 125VAC and 15A. The connector can pair with either the 1-15P or the NEMA 5-15P. 5-15P is your standard household plug used for to connect small appliances such as TV's, Microwaves, hairdryers, etc to a wall outlet. The NEMA 5-15P is compatible with a Nema 5-20R T-Slot outlet, which is commonly found in new home installations. This is commonly found on our NEMA 5-15 Extension cords, which are commonly used to extend a 125V 15A power source to a location off of a standard 5-15R wall receptacle.
The IEC 60320 C15 is a grounded 3 Wire connector rated up to 250V & 10 Amps Internationally and 125V/250V & 15 Amps in North America. The C15 mates with a C16 inlet as well as a C14 Inlet and is commonly used in IT Installations providing power from a PDU to a server, router, switch or other computing device. The C15 is a HIGH TEMPERATURE connector rated up to 120°C, unlike the 70°C rating of the C13. The C15 is commonly used in in electric kettles and other household appliances that involve higher temperatures than a normal C13 is made to withstand. The C15 connector is commonly used with 18awg SJT(OW), 16awg SJT(OW), and 14awg SJT(OW).
The C13 Splitter (x2) is for connecting 2 devices via 1 plug not to exceed 15A.
The IEC 60320 C5 is a grounded 3 Wire connector rated up to 250V and 2.5 Amps Internationally or 125V and 10 Amps in North America. The C5 mates with a C6 inlet, and is commonly used for laptop power supplies, projectors, and some televisions. Being slightly smaller in size than the C13, the C5 can be a good choice for smaller appliances. This connector is sometimes referred to as a "Mickey Mouse" connector due to the shape of the connector looking similar to the kids television show character.
The NEMA 5-15P is a 3 Wire grounded plug featuring two blades (can be equal or unequal widths due to the ground pin forcing polarity) and one ground pin rated up to 125V AC and 15 Amps. The NEMA 5-15P is your standard household plug used for to connect small appliances such as TV's, Microwaves, hairdryers, etc to a wall outlet. The NEMA 5-15P is compatible with a Nema 5-20R T-Slot outlet, which is commonly found in new home installations.
What does a NEMA 5-15P Connect to?
The NEMA 5-15 Plug connects to both the NEMA 5-15R Connector and the NEMA 5-15/5-20R Wall Outlet. The connector is commonly found on Extension cords, and the NEMA 5-15/5-20R Wall Outlet is the standard power supply outlet in all residential and commercial construction in North America.
The open end of a power supply cord is hard wired to another device, providing power either to our from that device. Unless otherwise noted, our power supply cords come standard with a 2" ROJ (Remove Outer Jacket) and a 1/4" Strip. The ROJ length determines the length of the individual conductors, and the Strip length determines the amount of copper exposed on the end of each conductor. If you require a custom ROJ or Strip length, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
