A NEMA Twist Lock Cable is a Power cord designed to mate with a Twist Lock Receptacle in North America, that has been designed to the standards produced by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association. These Twist Lock plugs and receptacles will have metal “flanged” pins that will functionally lock into place. To activate the locking mechanism of these power connectors, you must twist the flanges into place, which is why they have come to be called the “Twist Lock”.

For this 250 Volt 15 Amp Twist Lock Product Line, we have connectors available with the IEC320 C13, C19, and NEMA L6-15R Extension cable. The standard wire gauge and jacket for this product line is Black SJT 14awg 3 Conductor. Since the amperage rating of almost all of the connectors and plugs is 15 Amperes, using 14awg for a standard wire gauge helps us stock more lengths and options for availability. These cables are commonly used where 250 Volts are readily accessible like a Data Center or industrial facility. The extra voltage reduces the amperage required for the same power output, and thus reduces the wire gauge of the cable which can be helpful in a high-density application.

30A 250V NEMA L6-30P Power Cords
These power cables are among the highest power supplies before getting into industrial grade power (IEC 60309). The NEMA L6-30P generally supplies power to large devices and equipment in machine shops or data centers from an L6-30R Receptacle. In data centers this can be situated above the data rack and be twist-locked into place. In industrial environments the locking power source is generally located on a support beam or side wall, unless the ceilings are low enough to supply power outlets on the ceiling.

What is a NEMA Twist Lock Power Cord?
What is the Difference between a NEMA 5-15P and a NEMA L5-15P Plug?
Locking Functionality. These plugs are rated for the same voltage and amperage and are both found in North America. They are both designed by NEMA for similar purposes. The only difference which is visibly obvious is the orientation/design of the electrical pins. The L5-15P can be “twist-locked” into place, which is commonly used for high traffic areas or when powering equipment that would have adverse effects if dis-connected from a power source unexpectedly.
What do the numbers mean for the designation of NEMA Plugs?
Voltage and Amperage Classification. Under the NEMA classification, the first number (extends into double digits) will designate the voltage and conductor count. The second number (commonly distinguished from the first with a “-”) is the amperage rating. For example the NEMA 1-15P is rated for 125 Volts, without a ground under “NEMA 1” and is rated for up to 15 Amperes of power. IEC 60320 C13
The IEC 60320 C13 is a grounded 3 Wire connector rated up to 250V and 15 Amps. The C13 mates with a C14 inlet, and is commonly used in a jumper cable scenario in IT Installations providing power from a PDU to a server, router, switch or other computing device. Most people know the C13 as 'the thing that plugs into my computer' because it is the standard connector used to power most desktop computers. In a desktop computer application, the most common cable is the NEMA 5-15P to C13, which connects your standard North American wall outlet to a desktop computer.

IEC 60320 C15
The IEC 320 C15 Power cable is used to power electrical devices that emit so much heat (intentionally or unintentionally) that they require a power connection that can withstand more than the 70 °C (158 °F) temperature rating of the standard C13. In combination with the C14 plug type, the use cases of this high-temperature cable are almost exclusively data center environments. This cable would most likely be found supplying a High-Powered Switch power from a rack-mounted PDU power supply source. If your equipment has a IEC320 C16 Inlet it should only be mated with the matching C15-Power Connector.
