SANS 164-1: Plugs and socket outlets for household and similar purposes, 16A 250VAC. The most common plug and socket in use in South Africa originated from the old British system BS 546, with some small differences in pin lengths. It has been in use for the past 80 years, metricated in1953 and revised in 1980. By 2021 or so, plugs made to this standard will be phased out.
SANS 164-2: Plugs and socket outlets for household and similar purposes, IEC System, 16A 250VAC. Plugs and sockets will be phased in according to this new standard and should be fully implemented by about 2021. The plug is very similar to the Brazil plug, but the pin dimensions are different.
