Open Ended (Whips, Pigtails, ROJ Strip)

General Information:

The open end of a power supply cord is hard wired to another device, providing power either to our from that device. Unless otherwise noted, our power supply cords come standard with a 2" ROJ (Remove Outer Jacket) and a 1/4" Strip. The ROJ length determines the length of the individual conductors, and the Strip length determines the amount of copper exposed on the end of each conductor. If you require a custom ROJ or Strip length, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

For the majority of our customers, the color code used for the cordage is negligible. However, for OEM customers, or customers dealing with government installations or projects that have highly specified cords the color code used will be important to establish. Our standard color code for our Cut/ Remove of Outer Jacket/ Strip Conductor Job is North American Color Code (NACC).

IEC 60320 C15 CONNECTOR (FEMALE)

IEC 60320 C15 CONNECTOR (FEMALE)

General Information:

The IEC 60320 C15 is a grounded 3 Wire connector rated up to 250V & 10 Amps Internationally and 125V/250V & 15 Amps in North America. The C15 mates with a C16 inlet and can also be down graded to a C14 Inlet. C14 Inlet and is commonly used in IT Installations providing power from a PDU to a server, router, switch or other computing device. The C15 is a HIGH TEMPERATURE connector rated up to 120°C, unlike the 70°C rating of the C13. The C15 is commonly used in in electric kettles and other household appliances that involve higher temperatures than a normal C13 is made to withstand. There is a dimple located below the ground pin to ensure that the standard C13 connector cannot be plugged into the C16 Inlet which is used on high temperature applications. This design is utilized to allow this C15 connector to be used on both high temperature applications and standard applications, as to not limit the user. The C15 connector is commonly used with 18awg SJT(OW), 16awg SJT(OW), and 14awg SJT(OW).

What does the IEC 60320 C15 Connect to?

IEC 60320 C14 Inlet
IEC 60320 C16 High Temperature InletThe IEC 60320 type C15 connector is designed to plug into the high temperature rated IEC 320 C16 Inlet. The C15 can also be plugged into a standard non-high temp application C14 Inlet, which is located on a wide variety of IT Equipment like computer monitors and switches.

IEC 60320 C7 CONNECTOR (FEMALE)

IEC 60320 C7 CONNECTOR (FEMALE)

General Information:

The IEC 60320 C7 is an ungrounded 2 Wire connector rated up to 250V and 2.5 Amps Internationally or 125V and 10 Amps in North America. This connector is commonly used to connect power to a device that does not require a ground because of double insulating material which prevents the user of the device from being electrocuted. The C7 mates with a C8 inlet, and is commonly used for laptop power supplies, video game consoles, televisions, and other double-insulated small appliances. This connector is sometimes referred to as a "Figure-8" or "Shotgun" connector due to it's shape. A variation of the C7 exists, sometimes referred to as a C7P or C7 Polarized, although it is not documented in the IEC 60320 standard. The C7P has one square side and one circular side so the connector only mates with the inlet using the correct pin configuration.

How to tell the difference between Polarized vs. Unpolarized? What does the C7 Connect to?

IEC 60320 C7 Connector Polarized

IEC 60320 C8 Polarized Inlet
Polarized

The Polarized C7 Connector/ Polarized C8 Inlet will have a squared off side that will force polarity. In other words, if a device is not internally engineered to accept the line/ load in either orientation, the device will be wired with the polarized C8.

IEC 60320 C7 Non Polarized Connector

IEC 60320 C8 Inlet Non Polarized
Non-Polarized

The Non Polarized C7 & Non Polarized C8 Inlet can be identified by a "shotgun" look, with symmetrical sides that allow the user to plug in the connector in either orientation because of superior internal wiring.

IEC 60320 C20 PLUG (MALE)

IEC 60320 C20 PLUG (MALE)

General Information:

The IEC 60320 C20 is a grounded 3 Wire Plug rated up to 250V and 20 Amps. It is commonly used with either 14awg or 12awg conductors, depending on the application and the power draw required for the device. The most common configuration for a C20 is in a jumper cable scenario, providing power from a PDU to a blade server chassis, high powered server, large network router, or similar device. The C20 is used in applications where the most common IEC320 plug, the C14 will not provide enough power. This plug is rated for temperatures up to 65*C. For applications where the temperature of the equipment exceeds 65 degree C, we recommend using the high tempature version: The IEC 60320 C22 High Temperature plug, which is rated for temperatures up to 155*C.

IEC 60320 C14 PLUG (MALE)

IEC 60320 C14 PLUG (MALE)

General Information:

The IEC 60320 C14 is a grounded 3 Wire Plug rated up to 250V and 15 Amps. The C14 plug is one of the most commonly used plugs in the data center industry, especially the Inlet version, which is found on the vast majority of Information Technology devices that are produced today. The IEC 60320 C14 is typically used with either 18awg SVT, 18awg SJT(OW), 16awg SJT(OW) or 14awg SJT(OW). The types of cordages used will change the rating of the overall cord set. This plug is very common in consumer, commercial and industrial applications which can create many different names for this plug across different industries like the computer plug, IEC plug, and more generalized names. Some also refer to this as the iec C13 plug, or the c13 power plug because of the C13 connector that it mates with.

What does the IEC 60320 C14 plug into?

IEC 60320 C13 Connector
IEC 60320 C13 Outlet
The IEC 60320 C14 plug is designed to connect to the IEC 320 C13 connector and the outlet. The connector is found on a variety of 10-15A power cords, while the outlet is located on a variety of power supplies. The outlet is most commonly found on Power Distribution Units found in office, commercial, or data center settings as well as Power Adapter bricks.

IEC 60320 C21 CONNECTOR (FEMALE)

IEC 60320 C21 CONNECTOR (FEMALE)

General Information:

The IEC 60320 C21 is a grounded 3 Wire connector rated up to 250V and 20 Amps. The C21 mates with a C22 or C20 inlet, and is commonly used in a jumper cable scenario in IT Installations providing power from a PDU to a server, router, switch or other computing device. The C21 is a HIGH TEMPERATURE version of the C19 connector, with a maximum pin temperature of 155°C instead of the standard 65°C of a C19, and is typically used in high powered blade servers, large network routers, and other IT equipment that draws more power than a standard C13 can accommodate. The corners are beveled so that a standard C19 cannot be plugged into the C22 Inlet since it is not high temperature rated and could be a fire hazard.

What does the IEC 60320 C21 Connect to?

IEC 60320 C22 InletThe IEC 60320 C21 connectors is designed to connect to the IEC 60320 C22 Inlet, which is commonly found on high powered IT Equipment that exceeds the standard 65*C Temperature rating of a C20 Inlet. These inlets are found on switches and routers.

The IEC 60320 Standard

IEC 60320 Appliance couplers for household and similar general purposes is a set of standards from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) specifying non-locking appliance and interconnection couplers for connecting power supply cords to electrical appliances up to 250 volts. Different types of connector (distinguished by shape and size) are specified for different combinations of current, temperature and earthing requirements. Unlike IEC 60309 connectors, they are not coded for voltage; users must ensure that the voltage rating of the equipment is compatible with the mains supply.
